Kathleen Hefferon received her Ph.D. in Molecular Virology at the University of Toronto.Dr. Heffron has worked on the faculty at the Division of Nutritional Sciences at Cornell and has written two books on biopharmaceuticals in plants. She teaches and conducts research at both the University of Toronto and Cornell University. Kathleen has 4 patents, has edited 6 books, and has multiple research publications.

Biography :

João R. Mesquita (D.V.M., M.Sc.; Ph.D.) is a Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu and a Researcher at the EPIUnit – Public Health Institute of UP, teaching topics within Infectious Diseases for more than 12 years. Over his career, he has focused on both animal and human Virology, where he has published over 50 papers in JCR indexed Journals. He has won several scientific prizes from different societies and conferences, where he has presented numerous oral and poster presentations. His research interests are focused on animal and human virology, mainly on zoonotic viruses, with a special interest in surveillance tools, epidemiology and infection control.

Oncological Virology Professor, Naples University (1972-1985). Chief Division Virology (1973-2003), Head Department Diagnostic Laboratories, (2003-2006). D. Cotugno Hospital for Infectious Diseases, Naples; Emeritus (2006). Since 2007 Chairman Committee of Biotechnologies and VirusSphere, World Academy Biomedical Technologies, UNESCO, Adjunct Professor Department Biology, Temple University, College of Science and Technology, Philadelphia, recipient of the Sbarro Health Research Organization lifetime achievement award (2010). President, Foundation de Beaumont Bonelli for Cancer Research. His basic researches have been concerned with antigens induced early during the replication cycle of human herpesviruses. Another study has involved the identification, isolation, and characterization of specific virus-induced tumor antigens, which were the "fingerprints" left behind in human cancer. Achievements include patents in a field; a discovery of Respiratory Syncytial Virus in infant deaths in Naples and of tumor liberated protein as a tumor-associated antigen, 55 kilodalton protein overexpressed in lung tumors and other epithelial adenocarcinomas.

Prof. Calderaro has a degree in Medicine and Surgery summa cum laude at the Faculty Medicine and Surgery, University of Parma; license to medical practice in Medicine and Surgery awarded by the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Parma; member of the Medical Practitioners National Register; Ph.D. in Basic and Applied Microbiology; post-degree at the Medical School of Microbiology and Virology summa cum laude at the Faculty Medicine and Surgery of the University of Parma. She is currently MD, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Parma. Medical activity: Director of the Unit of Clinical Microbiology and Director in charge of a unit of Clinical Virology at the University Hospital of Parma. Her research activity covers the fields of bacteriology (mycobacteria, spirochaetes); parasitology (plasmodia, Toxoplasma gondii, intestinal protozoa), virology (hepatitis viruses; gastroenteric viruses). Author of more than 400 papers and 4 books and chapters of books

Biography :

Anupam Varma obtained MSc (Botany) (1961) from Allahabad University and later worked there on post-harvest diseases of fruits and vegetables under the guidance of Professor RN Tandon. In 1964, he went to Roth Amsted Experimental Station, UK, and obtained his Ph.D. (1967) from London University while working under the supervision of Sir Frederick Bawden and Dr. Adrian Gibbs.Prof. A.P. Misra Lifetime Achievement Award, 2011; NASI: BP Pal Memorial Award, 2013. Chair, International Council for Science (ICSU) Regional Committee for Asia and the Pacific, 2006-08. He was with the FAO of the United Nations (1979-81) for developing a National Horticultural Research Institute at Ibadan in Nigeria. He has been Visiting Fellow at the Australian National University, Scottish Crop Research Institute, UK, and INRA, France.

Neveen is a microbiologist with a love of bacteria and tinkering. She was a graduate student in Ain Shams University, and a postdoctoral fellow in Microbiology in National Organization for Drug Control and Research. She was visiting scholar in Nanotechnology, Chemistry Department in Massachusetts, Amherst (UMAS) University. She published more than 20 papers in reputed journals, Neveen is originally from Giza, Pyramids, Egypt.
